GEOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF OPHIOLITE—MELANGE IN ALI REGION AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH REGIONAL TECTONICS

The Ali ophiolite-melange zene comprises ferrif erous-ultramaf ic complex in the Bangong lake-Dongji and Jiagang of Ritu County, zhaguo of GeJi County and the Mami snow-mouatain and Dongcuo of Gaize County. The oph-iolite occurs in the Jurassic-Cretaceous strata with flysch facies. The older country rock is of the Carboniferous-Permian strata.This ophiolite belt is the best-developed in the Bangong lake-Dongji section and the next is in the Gaize section. The Ritu section may be approximately divided into three ophiolite associations,at the bottom of which is exposed a suit of ultramafic rocks. There is obvious componental bedding in the second suit of saxonite.Gabbro, gabbro-diabase, etc. are distributed in the belt to different degrees. and some of them occur in ultrabasic rocks as dike.The upper part is composed of pillow basic lavas and radiolarian chert, in which there are many kinds of radiolarian reserved very well. The age of the radiolarian belongs to upper Jurassic by preliminary identification.The lithologic association of the Gaize section is similar to that of the Geji section.Ali ophiolite is proved to be of the Alpine type by such features as association of rock, mineral constituent, texture and structure, altered degree,occur-ence,etc.By crossing ophiolite belt in a large area, we found the characteristic of a structural-magmatic zone occuring every 230 kilometers or so. And between every two zones, an ultracrustal structure-magmatic zone of abyssal ophiolite suit as the main part occurs. The belt is the suture zone of two huge collision plates.On both sides of the suture zone, the crustal structure-magmatic zone being mainly intermediate-acidic intrusive rocks and extrusive rocks occurs. With the characteristic of equidistance in space, towards the south about 700 kilometers from the ophiolite suture belt occurs the Yajiang ophiolite belt, towards the north about 700 kilometers from the ophiolite suture belt occurs the Kunlun-Jinshajiang ophiolite zone, and then towards the north from the Kunlun-Jin-shajiang ophiolite zone occurs the AErjinshan ophiolite zone.
