A COMPUTER METHOD OF TRANSFORMING THE TIME-DOMAIN AEM RESPONSE INTO APPARENT RESISTIVITY

A computer method of transforming the time-domain AEM response into apparent resistivity was discussed in this paper. We have established an experimental formula for the time-domain AEM response above a homogeneous earth sarface. Observed decay curves were smoothed by regression analysis according to this formula. An improved optimization method has been used. The method fits the objective function in this paper and is characterized by its stable convergence,faster convergence rate and simple computer program.The data processing and optimization methods had been used in some theoretical datum of the time-domain AEM response above the surface of a homogeneous earth instead of some datum observed and were proved to be high precision and highly effective. The methods have been used in a survey area in Hunan. The map of apparent resistivity obtained from computer is almost the same as that obtained manually. However, computer method is much more accurate and quicker than manual method.The excellent correlation between the map of apparent resistivity and geological map proves that the AEM system (INPUT) can be used in geological mapping. Besides.it has been found that the AEM system is specially sensitive to the coal bearing series so that it can be used in coal deposits exploration.
