SITE GROUP ANALYSIS OF CARBONATE-FLUORAPATITE
Huang Zuoliang(Geological Institute for Chemical Minerals Product Minslry of Chemical)
The present paper discusses the relationship between infrared spectra and crystal structure of cabonate-fluorapatite.When PO43- ions symmetrically occupy Cs site, the vibration of PO43- ions is marked by A' (v1) , A' + Ay (v2)and 2A' + A' (v3, v4). There are nine vibration frequencies on the infrared spectrogram. CO32- substitutes PO43- ions, with two possible site symmetries, respectively Cs h (σh)and Csv(σh). In this case, the v3 and v4 vibrations of CO32- ions generate split of site group, and v1 becomes infrared active. The reason why vibration of CO32- ions is featured by two peaks has been explained well.
