SEGMENT STRUCTURE AND DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THE ENSHI FAULT IN THE WESTERN HUBEI PROVINCE

The kinematic and dynamic features of the Enshi fault in the 3 main deformational phases are analyzed by means of the striations on fault planes, conjugate joints and microstructure in fault zone. It is shown that the maximum horizontal principal compressive stress direction in the major phase of Yanshanian movement was 300°~340° and differential stress was 150~180 MPa; whereas the maximum horizontal principal compressive stress direction in the late phase of the Yanshanian movement, was 350°~10° and differential stress was about 120 MPa; and the maximum horizontal principal compressive stress direction of the major phase of Ximalaya movement was 20°~60° and differential stress of was 60~100 MPa. The segment structure of the Enshi fault are controlled by both of the regional tectonic dynamic setting and fault self-organization. The segment structure of the Enshi fault in the major phase of the Yanshanian movement are mainly controlled by the regional tectonic dynamic setting, whereas in the late phase of Yanshanian movement and the major phase of Ximalaya movement by the feedback action of fault self-organization.
