GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTERS OF TRACE ELEMENTS IN THE WULIPU LOESS-PALEOSOIL SECTION, SHANXI PROVINCE

Studies on trace elements composition in the Wulipu loess-paleosoil section,Shanxi province, show that the concentration of these elements in the paleosoil differs from that of loess.This difference means that there are different geochemical behaviours between these elements during weathering and pedogenesis. It is suggested that the element in loess-paleosoil was variation as a result of paleoclimate changes. So it can be used as climatic proxies. Higher Pb, Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr, Ni, Co, Mn or lower Rb, Sr in paleosoil means a warm and wet climate, and luxuriant vegetation. Lower Pb, Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr, Ni, Co, Mn or higher Rb, Sr in loess means a dry and cold climate. The Holocence climate was not continued warm in the south part of the Loess Plateau and the waved development of climate is generalized as: Aeolian dust deposit (L t)→palaeosoil(S 2 0)→loess (L 2 0)→palaeosoil(S 1 0)→loess(L 1 0) and forming modern surface soil.
