ON THE QUATERNARY LACUSTRINE DEPOSITS AND THE LACUSTRINE LANDFORM OF NAM CO,XI ZANG(TIBET)

The paper describes the results of preliminary observation on la custrine deposits of Nam Co (Lake),the largest lake of Xizang (Tibet). The autho rs find out four terraces of 3~12 m, 15~22 m, 25~30 m and 35~45 m above the lak e level consisted of sand and clay, the basement rock covered with lacustrine de posits of 60~150 m above the lake level, approximate 50 strips of lakeshore em b ankments consisted of gravels of shingle lakeshore phase,the lacustrine landfor m along the coast of Nam Co. Furthermore,lacustrine and lakeshore deposits are f ounded in the second and third terraces of Nam Co,the bottom of the watershed va lley (20 m, 90 m and 60m higher than Ren Co Yuema, Ren Co Gongma and Jiuru Co) a nd the north hill slope connecting Nam Co and Ren Co Yuema-Ren Co Gongma-Jiuru C o northwest. The results corroborate that Nam Co was connected with Ren Co-Jiuru Co many times before. They were not two lakes linked each other by a river but a united large lake instead. The last time the ancient big lake was separated wa s the interstadial epoch of the last ice age.
