THE EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF IRON REMOVAL AND BLEACHING ON CORNISH STONE

The iron removal and bleaching experiment on cornish stone from Changbai region in Jilin was made by soaking method in acid. The results of iron removal and bleaching with chlorhydric acid and oxalic acid were contrasted. The result was that the effect of oxalic acid on iron removal and bleaching was better than chlorhydric acid. In addition, the factors that influence iron removal and bleaching result were investigated, including acidity, concentration, time, temperature, and so on. The result showed that the best concentration was 15%. With the acidity increasing, time prolongation and temperature rise the effect on iron removal and bleaching was increased obviously. At last, the best iron removal and bleaching project was worked out. The acidity was 1.00%. The concentration was 15%. The time was 150 minutes. The temperature was 60℃. After iron removal and bleaching, the iron content in cornish stone had been dropped from 0.64% to 0.20% and the cornish stone whiteness had been increased from 68.2% to 83.7%. The highest whiteness could be 84%.
