GEOCHEMISTRY-ISOTOPE STUDY OF DEEP KARST GROUNDWATER SYSTEM IN WESTERN ARID REGIONS ——A Case Study of Karst-Fracture Groundwater System in the Region of the Archaic Lithosphere Upheaval in the South of Ningxia

Karstfracture groundwater in the south-east of Ningxia has been synthetically analyzed by applying the theories of tectoniccontrolled groundwater, groundwater geochemistry and isotopic techniques. The study shows that the groundwater storage space is mainly made up of karstfracture, and the distribution of karst groundwater is strictly controlled by the south-north strike faults. Karst groundwater in the regions is mainly originated from atmospheric precipitation, and is mixed by many kinds of primitive water. Groundwater quality has zonal characteristics which is good in the south and bad in the north. The waterrock interaction is dissolution-evapotranspiration and produces salt water in the north area. In the south area the waterrock interaction is dissolutionmixture and produces fresh water. According to the characteristics of hydrodynamic conditions and water chemistry, the whole karst system has been divided into three subordinate karst groundwater system.
