Borehole radar has been applied widely in engineering and environmental problems as a mode of Ground Penetrating Radar. To understand the capability of borehole radar, numerical simulation is used to study the radar signal response in various kinds of geological conditions. Maxwell's equations in time domain are expressed in difference equations by following Yee's finite difference time domain(FDTD) theory. Both the electric and the magnetic fields in 3-dimensional space can be calculated by iteration. The introduction of the sub-grid technique enhances the accuracy and efficiency. Modeling techniques for transmitting and receiving dipole antennas are provided. The simulated borehole radar signals for water-filled fracture and an ore are given. The reswts show that borehole radar can be applied to this qeological cowdition.
