STUDY ON THE SEISMOLOGY IN MANZHOULI-SUIFENHE GEOSCIENCE TRANSECT OF CHINA

Manzhouli-Suifenhe geoscience transect is studied through seismological analysis. Several conclusions are made from the present study. The transect is subdivided into 3 velocity blocks, i.e. E′erguna-Xing′an, Songliao-Zhangguangcailing and Jiamusi-Xingkai. The crust is of 29-38 km thick is vertically subdivided into three layers. The mean P-wave velocity is 6.25-6.40 km/s. The Songliao Basin has a thick cover sequence with under lying low-angle faults. The thickness of Moho lies between 1.5 ̄5.0 km and it has complicated internal structures. The low velocity layers in the upper mantle are obviously different in depths, with the shallowest beneath the Songliao block. The foci of most earthquakes lie in the middle or upper crust, while deep shodcs are much more and stronger than the shallow ones. The major direction of the principal compressive stress in the crust is NE-SW.
