DISCOVERY AND GEOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE MELANGE IN CENTRAL QIANGTANG REGION,TIBET

Cheng Liren, Li Cai, Hu Ke (College of Earth Sciences, Changchun Univ. of Sci. and Tech., Changchun 130026, China)
Mélange is not an isolated geological phenomenon but a kind of specific geological body formed under particular geological conditions in a certain period. The distribution of mélange is closely related to intercontinental oceanic basins and suture zones between different plates. Mélanges are formed during subduction (including submarine environment) near the suture zone. Even though mélanges were reported along Yaluzangbujiang suture zone, the discovery of mélange in centrab Qiangtang region is the first time. It is of great significance for determining the boundary between Gondwana and Eurasia continents in Qiangtang region.
