RHEOLOGY OF THE LITHOSPHERE AND SEDIMENTARY BASINS

The rheology of the lithosphere which determines the overall strength of the lithosphere is controlled by geothermal, composition and structure of the lithosphere. The response of lithosphere to tectonic forces is controlled by the spatial variation of strength of rheology of the lithosphere. Sedimentary basins are expression of rheological deformation process on a lithospheric scale. With great differences in lithospheric rheology and strength, there developed fault basin, more fault and less depression basin and fault depression basin in west Liaoning, north Liaoning and Songliao basin area respectively.
