A remote sensing image data compression method based on biorthogonal wavelet transformation

A remote sensing image data compression method is proposed.The original image is transformed into bright sub image and edge sub image using biorthogonal wavelet.The bright sub image is encoded by JPEG,and the edge sub image is encoded by fast vector quantization(FVQ).The experimental results show that the PSNR of the reconstructed image is 28 dB with a rate of 0 8 bit/pixel,and the reconstruction performance is superior to that using JPEG.
