The design and research of modular battery management systems based on the horizon lead-acid battery

SHI Qing-sheng,ZHANG Cheng-hui(School of Control Science and Engineering,Shandong University,Jinan,250061)  
Horizon lead-acid battery,which is called"another revolutionary of the lead-acid battery",has high specific energy,specific power and cycle life,and greatly applies to the electric vehichles.However,it may come into being serious problems if the batteries get improper management during the operation,such as over-charging,over-discharging,imbalance of voltage among the cells.So,this paper studies the types and basic functions of the BMS,designs a modular BMS based on the horizon lead-acid batteries.The experimental results show that the system reduces the size and weight of the wiring harness,lowers the cost and enhances the flexibility.
