An Analysis of Chinese College English Learner's Use of Pragmatic Markers in Turn Taking

This paper is based on COLSEC (Chinese College English Learner's Corpus),It sets out to study the characteristic features of the learners'Use of Pragmatic Markers In Turn Taking strategies.It was found that the learners'use of floor-claiming utterances,reactive tokens and conversation fillers differed significantly from that of native speakers,and that their overall pragmatic strategies were under-developed.The study has found that the overuse and the underuse tendency co-exist in the use of pragmatic markers in spoken English corpus COLSEC.Some implication for English learning and teaching:college English teachers can guide the college students to pay more attention to the rule and function of pragmatic markers, and encourage them to use in their spoken English. The college English learners can use the pragmatic markers to exercise their interactive strategies.
