SEDMENTARY CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CENOZOIC DAYI CONGLOMERATE IN CHENGDU BASIN

The Dayi conglomerate is deposited in the foreland basin located in the Longmen mountains of the Tibetan plateau. By analyzing the evolution, stratigraphic sequence development, lithology, sedimentary characteristics and material source in the Chengdu basin, this paper indicates that the Dayi conglomerate bears fluvial facies and alluvial fan sedimentary characteristics. It concludes that the Dayi conglomerate is composed of three main alluvial fans: the ancient Minjiang, Qingyijiang and Yuxi fans. After the Dayi conglomerate deposition, tectonic activities occured frequently. During the Pliocene Lower Pleistocene, the Dayi conglomerate was deposited continuously. It is different from the unconformities in the same time all of the world.
