Application of multifractal to ore-forming potential evaluation

It is of great significance to study the distribution patterns of geochemical elements by using (fractal) and multifractal methods. Based on a typical multifractal method, the moment method, this paper first studies the effect of different grid densities on some results and then, the multifractal spectrum (function) shapes of some elements in metallic geochemical fields. The data used include 25 elements of 1447 whole rock samples from a region of 4290 km~2 in North Guangdong. The results indicate that it is (ubiquitous) that metallic geochemical fields are multifractal. For major ore-forming elements, the range of the left-side of the multifractal spectrum is larger than that of the right-side, but those non-ore-forming (elements) are on the contrary. The shape of multifractal spectrum may provide directions in the study of ore-forming potential. This can be reflected well by the asymmetric index put forward by the authors in the paper.
