Ordovician graptolite fauna characteristics and sedimentary environment of Gongcheng, Guangxi, China

The present paper discusses the Ordovician graptolite fauna and depositiona characteristics in Gongcheng, Guangxi. The graptolite fauna belongs to the Zhujiang sub-form of Huanan form with typical characteristics of the Pacific graptolite fauna. The Ordovician rocks consist of argillaceous flyschiod. In ascending order, they are Huang’ai Formation, Shengping Formation and Tianlingkou Formation. The graptolite fauna and depositional characteristics indicate that in the Yushanian and the basin was an active tectonic one and then the water body became relatively tranquil and increasing in depth. The black graptolite shale facies indicate a deep-water, half enclosed and anoxic sedimentary environment.
