Application of the Hilbert-Huang transform to the analysis of seismic signal

The Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is a novel signal analysis theory. It is developed through integrating EMD and classical Hilbert transform. It can express the intrinsic essence using simple and understandable algorithm. In this paper, the HHT method is described, and its performance is compared with the Fourier methods of spectral analysis and compared to equivalent results obtained using wavelet analysis. HHT provides a better match to physical intuition and more flexible and precise result than other methods. Moreover, the HHT method can be used in dealing with the seismic signal. The result suggests that this novel method is worthy of further research and generalization.
