Development of the swath profile tool based on ArcView GIS and its application in morphometric analysis

The swath profile method uses four statistical parameters including maximum,minimum,average and standard deviation to describe the topographical feature in a certain area quantitatively,and turns the description of the hypsography characteristic of topography in line into the description of topography in a certain area by the topographical profile graph.According to this method,the swath profile tool by the Avenue language embeded in ArcView(3.3) is developed.It expands the function that draws the topographical profile graph and realizes the automatic drawing of the swath profile graph.While being applied to the practical morphometric analysis,it can reflect the statistical characteristic of elevation change accurately and is of advantage for abstraction and analysis of the spatial relationship between topography and landform.
