The characters of bentonite in the Longquanshan area of Sichuan,China

The characters of bentonite from the main deposits in Longquanshan of Sichuan are summarized by a series of mineralogy and physical-chemical tests and analyses.The results show that the bentonite deposits are hosted in the stratum of Mesozoic.The bentonite has high chemical content of Na2O which is close to Na-bentonite,but the chemical content of CaO is also high.The bentonite is validated to be Ca-bentonite by synthetically analysing the result of the test of X-ray and TG-DTA.The tests of cation exchange capacity and number of exchangeable cation show that Ca2+ and Na+ are the mostly exchangeable cations.By synthetically analysing other characters such as relative high colloid index and low expansion value and slightly alkaline,the bentonite is validated to be Ca-Na-bentonite.The montmorillonite content of bentonite from this area is more than 70%,higher than the average content of bentonite from the main deposits in China,but it still can't be used directly.The particular performance of the bentonite and its transitional industry type make it to have a relative good condition for raising the use value by deeply process it.
