Groping application of AVO method based on two-phase medium to the identification of gas and water reservoirs

The Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation reservoirs have the characteristic of super tight and super deep in the west of Sichuan Basin,so it is difficult to identify the fluid in this situation,especially,to distinguish gas and water.There are many geophysics methods which have been tried in the Xujiahe Formation reservoir,but the results are not satisfactory.This paper analyzes the response characteristics of the amplitude versus incidence when the reservoir of Xujiahe Formation is bearing gas and water based on the accurate two-phase medium equation of Biot theory and petrophysics data of the Xujiahe Formation reservoir.The results show that people can well distinguish gas from water in the upper of Member 4 of Xujiahe Formation reservoir but not in the deep of Member 2 of the Xujiahe Formation reservoir by applying two-phase medium AVO method,but for Member 2 of Xujiahe Formation reservoir,other effective methods are needed continually.All the above results show that it is significant to find good methods to distinguish gas from water for the next step in the Xujiahe Formation reservoir in the west of Sichuan.
