Some Studies on Numerical Calculations of T-Matrix Approach for Light Scattering by Nonspherical Particles

A numerical method for the T matrix approach of light scattering by randomly oriented and axially symmetric nonspherical particles performed in PC machine is presented first. Then, the convergence problem of T matrix computations is further studied. A new, physical convergence procedure specifically intended for randomly oriented, nonabsorbing, nonspherical scatterers is proposed. In the present study the convergent problems for the spheroids are investigated. The results show that our numerical method and the computer codes for the T matrix approach are efficient. The convergence accuracy depends strongly on the particle size and shape. Under some conditions our physical convergence procedure is superior to the mathematical convergence procedure developed by NASA Mishchenko in 1993.
