The type and the distribution of mucous cells in thedigestive of Sipunculan were observed and analyzed by using AB-PAS (alcine blue and periodic acid schiff's reaction) in this paper for the first time. The result showed the mucous cells in the digestive of Phascolosoma pacificum Keferstein mainly distributed in the epithelium and could be divided into 4 types: typeⅠ, pure red; type Ⅱ, pure blue; type Ⅲ, purplish blue; type Ⅳ, bluish purple color.Except for the inferior segment of the descending intestine, the rest portions of the digestive were all covered with mucous cells, meanwhile the mucous cells had different types and densities in the different parts. There were a plenty of mucous cells, included the four types mentioned above, appeared in pharynx, most of which belonged to type Ⅳ. The mucous cells in the esophagus were mainly type Ⅳ, and it was also founded that the number of the mucous cells decreased from the anterior to the posterior gradually. There were also a plenty of mucous cells in the superior segment of the descending intestine, which mainly belonged to typeⅡand type Ⅳ; in the inferior segment of the ascending intestine, there merely existed typeⅠwith a small amount; and in the superior segment of the ascending intestine, the quantity of the mucous cell increased, most of which was type Ⅱ.The quantity of the mucous cells distributed in the rectum was the largest, and the whole epithelium of the rectum were covered with type Ⅱ.
