Surface characteristic of coatings of biomedical Ti alloy by micro-arc oxidation

The ceramic coatings containing Ca and P elements were prepared on the surface of Ti-6Al-4V alloy through micro-arc oxidation in the electrolytes containing Ca salt and phosphate in this paper.The surface morphology,composition and phase constitution of this coating were studied by means of SEM,EDS and XRD.The results show that the micro-arc oxidation ceramic coatings on the surface of Ti-6Al-4V alloy,which contains Ca and P elements,bonds strongly with matrix alloy.This porous ceramic layer is composed mainly of rutile and anatase.Considering the phases,the biological activity of the coating treated by sodium hexametahphosphate-calcium acetate process which contains α-Ca(PO3)2 and CaTiO3 phases should be better.
