Effects of Accelerated Ageing on the Physiological and Biochemical Characters of Tall Fescue Seed

Experiments were conducted to determine the germination rate, electrical conductivity,glucose content, SOD isoenzyme and ATP content of seed leachates during seed germination in ageing ornon-ageing tall fescue seed. The results showed that germination rate and germination speed decreasedwith the increasing of accelerated ageing time in tall fescue seed, and germination speed decreased fasterthan germination rate, the electrical conductivity and glucose content of seed leachates in ageing seed werehigher than those in non-ageing seed, and electrical conductivity gradually increaed with the extendingageing time. New pattems of SOD isoenzyme, which formed by stimulation of lightly accelerated ageing,could prevent the damage of membrane system. ATP content of ageing seed obviously decreased duringgermination contrasting with non-ageing seed. ATP content was high in seriously ageing seed during earlygermination due to the ATP utilization was limited, but ATP content decreased rapidly with the prolong ofthe germination
