Based on morphological and anatomical observations of the aboveground and underground parts, and flowering and seed development studies that of Ephedra sinica, the regeneration behaviour and seed production of that plant were investigated. The results showed that the distribution of the plants in the natural conditions was in the form of “aggregated patch” and separated by sex due to its strong rhizomatous growth behaviour. Ephedra sinica showed a great potential for seed production by sexual plants. However, seed productivity was hindered by the abortion of reproduction organ and adverse natual environment. The authors suggest that fertilizer and irrigation should be used for increase of seed production.
