Evaluation on the Nutrition Value of Forage, Silage Corn and Straw Using Van-Soest Method

The neutral detergent solution (NDS), half fiber (HF), fiber (F), acid detergent lignin (ADL) and acid insulation ash (AIA) of alfalfa, hairy vetch, reed canary grass, Italian ryegrass, silage corn, wheat straw, and corn straw were tested using detergent method. The result shows that the content of NDS, fiber, and ADL of legumes is 73%, 23%, and a minimum of 0.2%, respectively. For grasses, their content of NDS is 73%, fiber, 23%, and ADL, 0.5%. The silage corn contains 42% NDS, 41% F, and 3% ADL, while the straw content of NDS, F, and ADL is, respectively, 28%, 62%, and 6%. Notably, the NDS content of wheat straw is merely 23%, and its F content is as high as 65%, yet it contains 9% ADL.
