The Introduction, Selection and Evaluation of Stylosanthes scabra cv. Seca and Utilization

Stylosanthes scabra cv. Seca was introduced from Australia in 1981 as a new kind of shrub stylo, which has good adaptability and began to try in 1985. The preliminary results showed that S. scabra cv. Seca maintained its genus characteristics of high dry matter yield and quality. its fresh forage yield was 43717.5 kg/hm~2, crude protein(CP) contents was 14.70%(DM, during vegetative growth period), Its flower date was later and seed production was 150~270 kg/hm~2. Its also has shrubby characteristics of high resistance to dry, grazing, anthracnose. S. scabra cv. Seca adapted to plant in tropical and sub-tropical regions especially be released in South-china for grazing-land and improving natural pasture.
