Effects of Sr on the As-cast Microstructure of Mg-3Al1Zn Magnesium Alloy

In this paper the effects of Sr on the as-cast microstructure of Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy are investigated,and the results indicate that there are no obvious effects of adding 0.01% and 0.05% Sr to Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy on alloy phases types of the experimental alloy,but the Al4Sr phase is found when 0.1%Sr is added.Furthermore,when minor Sr is added,the amount of Mg17Al12 phases in the microstructure of the experimental alloy decrease,and their distribution become more uniform.Especially when 0.1%Sr is added,the distribution is basically in an intermittent state.In addition,the results also show that as-cast microstructure of the Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy is also refined obviously by means of minor Sr adding.
