H_2S Gas Sensitivity of α-Fe_2O_3 Nanosized Powder Synthesized by Microwave Hydrolysis

α-Fe_2O_3 nano-powders were synthesized by microwave hydrolysis process, using FeCl_3·6H_2O as the starting material with the aid of N(CH_2CH_2OH)_3. The results of XRD and TEM analyses indicate that synthesized samples are pure α-Fe_2O_3 powders and their mean size is about 30 nm. The gas sensing measurements show that the sensors based on α-Fe_2O_3 have a high sensitivity and selectivity to H_2S. And its sensitivity to 5×10~ -6 H_2S gas is up to 21.5, its sensitivity to 2×10~ -6 H_2S gas is up to 16.4. Thus this oxide is a promising H_2S-sensing material.
