Fabrication and Analytical Characterization of Osmium Redox Polymer Based Biosensor to Low Concentration Glucose

The fabrication and analytical characterization of an osmium redox polymer modified glucose biosensor for measurement of low concentration glucose is described. The thin film gold electrode was modified with osmium redox polymer wired horseradish peroxidase and immobilization of the glucose oxidase was then operated using glutaraldehyde to build the glucose sensor. The developed sensor characterized a low background current less than 1 nA and a detection limit of 1 μM, as well as a high sensitivity of 2900 nA μM-1 in the linear range up to 400 μM at low applied potential of -0.1 V (vs. Ag|AgCl). The oxidation interference of ascorbic acid for the determination of glucose can be prevented due to the low applied potential. These results testified the feasibility of the sensor for measurement of low concentration glucose and have significance for the development of noninvasive glucose monitoring system for the control of diabetes.
