Measurement Techniques for Drilling Engineering Parameters near the Bit Based on Resistance Strain Gauges

The measurement of engineering parameters near the bit while drilling is of significant importance for the safety and efficiency in a drilling process.These parameters include weight on bit(WOB),torque on bit(TOB),bending moment(BM) and so on.Based on the dynamical properties of drill collar and the relationship between the stress and strain of drill collar,a measurement model has been put forward,and an experimental model has been set up.By the optimization of sensor's layout,the correlations among WOB,TOB and BM were solved successfully through the measurement model.The experimental results is accurate and it shows that the proposed method is reasonable and applicable.At last,other related problems,such as temperature compensation,model simplification and so on,were discussed.All of these are essentially important for the development of measurement technology near the bit while drilling.
