A novel wireless strain monitoring method for SMA-reinforced structures

The specific volume fraction of shape memory alloy (SMA) wires being embedded in composite material becomes a hybrid composite structure.The strain energy absorption of structure is significant increased;the fracture toughness of the structure is improved.If some SMA wire reinforced structures is used as an electrode of electric capacitor;the capacitor is connected to the oscillator circuit;the structure deformation causes the electrical capacitance change of the circuit,and the change of oscillating frequency is generated.Measuring the change of frequency of the circuit can obtain the strain of the deformed structure wirelessly.Theoretical analyses and experimental results show that this method is reliable.
