Improvement of rail wear detection algorithm based on two-dimensional laser displacement sensor

There is always some noise and outliers in the rail wear detection system based on two-dimension laser distance sensor. Because of the outliers of raw profile data,the traditional matching algorithm based on nonlinear least squares is very sensitive to the outliers,so that it makes inaccurate matching. So,an improvement has been proposed based on the sum of distance instead of least squares as the object function,and the partial best parameters can be solve by Nelder-Mead algorithm. Effectiveness and the error have been analyzed by simulation,and it is verified in the actual data of tack inspection train. It is concluded that this improvement really improved the profile matching precision.
