Effects of Shell Size Characters on Live Weight in Sea Urchin Strongylocentrotus intermedius

The correlation coefficients were measured and calculated among shell volume(x1),test diameter(x2),shell height(x3),and the live body weight(y)in 66 samples of sea urchin Strongylocentrotus intermedius during 13 months.The results showed that 3 correlation coefficients between each shell character and the live body weight were all very significant differences(P0.01).The test diameter(x2)showed predominant effect(P2=0.778)on the live body weight.The shell volume(x1)gave slightly direct effect and indirect effect on the live body weight.Depended on the check on path analysis,shell volume(x1)had no significant in multiple regression equation.It was clear from the results of high correlation index(R2=0.8978)that the truthful relationship between the independent variables(x2 and x3)and the dependent variable(Y)was revealed by the path coefficient analysis.The multiple regression equation to estimate live body weight as y=-21.78+1.035x1+0.188x2.This paper provides theoretical evidence and perfect measure target for breeding of sea urchins.
