The Uncertainties from Digital Terrain Analyzing by Using DEM

We often pay much more attention to the accuracy of DEM data, and accordingly, fail to recognize the uncertainties from Digital Terrain Analyzing (DTA) by using DEM. However, we can analyze these uncertainties from the following 4 aspects, no matter what DAT method is used. They are: the accuracy of DEM data, the error produced when describe terrain with DEM, the capacity of DEM topographic information, and the uncertainty of DTA model. It indicates that there do exist those uncertainties, and they are more about the matching problem between DEM scale effect and analytical model than the problem of data quality.
