Nutrient Nitrogen Loading and Spatial Distribution of Storm-water Runoff in Shanghai City

The concentration levels and spatial distribution of storm-water runoff taken from various functional areas in Shanghai city have been investigated based on field sampling and experimental analysis.Results have shown higher concertration levels of nitrogen in urban runoff.Mean values for TIN,NH 4-N,NO 2-N and NO 3-N are 7.45 ,3.14,2.98 and 1.33mg/L,respectively.In comparison with urban rivers,runoff nitrogen contributes greatly to river nitrogen concentrations,reflecting that urban runoff may be not an optimistic non-point source.On the spatial scale,the distribution of urban runoff nitrogen concentration is characterized by higher level located in industrial areas and traffic roads,and followed by decrease in residential and commercial areas.Meanwhile,in contrast to suburban areas,urban areas have higher concentration levels of nitrogen.
