Study of anticaking effects of surfactant/polymer blends on sodium nitrate

This anticaking effects of surfactant/polymer blends consisted of sodium lineal alkyl benzene sulfonate(LAS) and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) with various ratios and dosage on sodium nitrate powder,the microcosmic morphology of the sodium nitrate powder was studied using SEM,and the surface tension variations of LAS/PVA aqueous solution against increasing dosage of PVA. Experimental results show that at a certain dosage of the anticalking agent the anticaking effect is better and the particle size of sodium nitrate is smaller when the mass ratio of LAS and PVA is 1∶1. When the dosage of the anticaking agent reaches 0.015(w/%),the crystals of sodium nitrate are not hard,and the adhesion between the sodium nitrate particles as well as the sodium nitrate particle and other material is less. The surface tension decreases after adding PVA in LAS aqueous solution when its concentration is lower than cmc,but there is not clear transition point.In case the LAS concentration is higher than cmc,the surface tension appears no significant change.
