Synthesis and surface active properties of cleavable s-triazine fatty sulfonate surfactants

Four kinds of cleavable s-triazine fatty sulfonate anionic surfactant[2-fatty amino-4-(2-sulfonic ethyl)amino-6-chloro-1,3,5-s-triazine] with different length of alkyl chains were synthesized from fatty amine,cyanuric chloride and taurine.The structure of intermediates and target products were characterized by elemental analysis,1HNMR and FTIR.The surface tension of surfactants were measured at 25 ℃ and their surface active properties were studied.The results showed that when hydrophobic chain is C14critical micelle concentration(cmc)and γcmc of this series of surfactant achieve least value of 3.58×10-5 mol/L and 32.53 mN/m respectively.Compared with common surfactant C12-LAS,cmc of s-triazine fatty sulfonate surfactants when hydrophobic chains are C12~C16 are 1~2 order of magnitude lower than C12-LAS.That means they have higher efficiency to reduce surface tension of water than C12-LAS and lower surface adsorption amounts on the aqueous solution surface and greater molecular areas than C12-LAS when hydrophobic chains are C8,C12 and C16.However,it is on the contrary in case the hydrophobic chain is C14.
