Progress and Prospect of Geodesy in China

Chen Junyong(State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping,Beijing,100830)
The progress of geodetic work in China since 80's is reviewed. In order to meet the future requirements in the national economic, science and social development in China, some main geodetic actions are proposed, which should be completed in the first ten years of the 21st century. (1) Improvement of national space geodetic reference system. To take a combined adjustment of three nationwide GPS networks, including 2000 GPS stations. (2) Establishment of GPS comprehensive service system. To lay down a nationwide national GPS permanent tracking network including more than 300 permanent tracking stations and their real time telecommunication network. To provide GPS precise ephemeris and tracking data; GPS differential information for navigation; crustal movement data, perceptible water and TEC information in the atmosphere and so on. (3) Refining Chinese local gravity field on land and sea. The determination of Chinese local quasi geoid with semi meter accuracy and 10' resolution. To establish a Chinese new 2000 gravity datum. Applying satellite altimeter technique and wavelet theory to improve gravity field in Chinese coastal water area; (4) Releveling the Chinese 1st order leveling network.
