A comparison on DEM of different scale in loess hill and gully area

A series of experiments ware made to investigate the accuracy of topographic variables derived from DEMs of 1: 50000 map scaled and with a 5m horizontal resolution by means of a careful comparison with 1:10000 scaled DEMs of the same area. Taking Jiuyan area, from Suide county Shanxi Province P. R. China, as a test area and ARC/VIEW 3.1 as a main working platform, the results show different errors can be found in all three topographic variables, such as slope gradient, aspect of surface and accumulation. The results of this study can be used to guide the error-rectifying and the accuracy-evaluating of the DEMs in practical applications.
