The design and research on geo-visualization system for population

Population research is a hot area concerned by domestic and overseas,especially its researches on spatial visualization and geo-visualization system design,which can provide a sound base for understanding and analysis of the regional difference in population distribution and its spatial rules.This paper discusses the key theory and technology for design and construction of geo-visualization system for population in China,including its main frame,database structure,system components,functionality,and analysis models.Based on such designs, China's E-atlas for population was designed and developed by the integration of the national fifth census data with 1∶400 million scaled spatial data.The ten map categories with 196 maps as well as a highly structured population database with province,prefecture and county,together with the powerful functionality in display,query,statistics,mapping,and analysis,are integrated,providing spatial visual environment to indicate the characteristics of population distribution and the interrelations of the population elements.Moreover,such a system,provides the basic information and modern tool for the decision maker and researcher for handling,analysis of population information and making the long-term control policy.
