DBSCAN spatial clustering algorithm and its application in urban planning

Spatial clustering is a major method in spatial data mining and knowledge discovery.The DBSCAN algorithm can discover clusters of random shape from spatial database with “noise”.This article introduces the concepts and theories of DBSCAN,then implement it using MapObjects,a developed GIS groupware.Finally,the article applies this algorithm to urban planning practices to perform clustering analysis on distributions of urban public facilities such as elementary schools,high schools and commercial services sites from a spatial database.According the clustering results,the article discusses some items in urban planning standard.
