Research on the speed of multimedia electronic atlas responding to the user

The responding speed is a bottleneck in multimedia electronic atlas development. This paper analyses the problem at first. It tries to find the role every part in the atlas acts and how they affect the responding speed on earth. Following this, it gives some means respectively to solve the problem in the structure, the associated mechanism, the functions, the interface and the multimedia elements. Then a whole visual example of "Electronic Atlas of Ecological Environment in Fijian" consisting of seven map groups and an inbuilt web is put up to illustrate how a multimedia electronic atlas should be designed taking into account of responding speed enhancement for many interface instances.
