Quality assessment of linear features’ simplification algorithms based on constraint conditions

With more and more importance are put on the quality assessment of cartographic generalization, it's quite necessary to evaluate the quality of linear features' simplification algorithms, which is the most proportion of geographic features. Considering the characteristics of linear features' simplification algorithms, the problems on geometric and semantic aspects easily appearing in the process of linear features' simplification are summarized. Based on analyzing the constraint conditions that linear features are confined, initial evaluating figures to the algorithms are given, and quality assessment is implemented on three chosen algorithms by the methods of horizontal middle error and so on. According to experiments’ results, such method is scientific.
