A study of orbit determination methods using undifferenced dual-frequency onboard GPS P codes

The low-earth-orbiters(LEOs)have developed rapidly in recent decade due to the requirements of scientific researches such as gravity recovery,atmosphere exploration,radar altimeter and so on.However,the precise orbit determination(OD) of LEOs is the prerequisite to accomplish those scientific missions.This paper firstly studies and analyzes principles and mathematic models of different OD methods of LEOs based on dual-frequency P codes from onboard GPS receivers.Then real GPS observations from CHAMP satellite are used to illustrate OD accuracy of different OD methods so as to study the OD accuracy that each OD method may achieve.The results indicate that the accuracy of reduceddynamic OD method is up to several decimeters,which is relatively high.The dynamic method whose OD accuracy is about several meters has the worst OD accuracy among the different OD methods.And the kinematic method has the appropriate corresponding OD accuracy to the reduced kinematic one,which OD accuracy lies between that of dynamic method and reduced-dynamic.
