Study of 3D Techniques for Urban Geological Information Platform

To solve a series of geological problems that cities bring during the urbanization process in China, it is necessary to construct the Urban Geological Information Platform based on the modern information technology. The platform combines the multi-dimensional and dynamic spatial information of urban space into an integrated spatial information system. 3D geology modeling and its pre or post processing is the most difficult problems faced to the construction of the platform. The paper introduces the purpose, functions and services that the platform should provide, and discusses some basic problems met in the carrying out of the platform, such as 3D spatial data model, 3D geology modeling and visualization of urban geological data. The paper also introduces the recent development attained by authors. At last, the paper briefly reviews some key techniques that expected to be studied in the near future.
