THE CHARACTERISTIC AND MECHANISM OF DEACTIVATION OF CARBONYL SULFIDE HYDROLYSIS CATALYST

The deactivation of hydrolysis catalyst γ-Al2O3 has been studied with a feed gas containing no SO2. The deactivation of the catalyst mainly results from surface sulfur deposition, surface sulfate formation and the drop in surface area. It is obvious that the catalys.t activity is closely relative to the oxygen content in feed and the reaction temperature. At low temperature, oxygen excerts only a little influence on the activity of the catalyst, at temperature above 200℃ the catalyst activity decreases dramatically with the increase of oxygen content in the feed, and this process is not invertible. The deactivation mechanism of the hydrolysis catalyst varied with the composition of purified gas (containing SO2 or not) and reaction temperature (above and below 200℃) is discussed.
