CATALYTIC BEHAVIOR OF AMORPHOUS Ni-B ALLOY FOR BENZENE HYDROGENATION

A supported amorphous nickel-boron alloy catalyst, Ni-B/SiO2,with high specific surface(250m2/g) prepared by chemical precipitation shows high catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of benzene.The experimental results indicate that the amorphous effect of the catalyst is obvious, i.e. the activity of the catalysts decreases with the increasing of crys-tallinity. The catalyst is characterized by XRD, TEM and DTA. A comparison of the catalytic activity of amorphous Ni-B/SiO2 and industrial Raney Ni catalyst for benzene hydrogenation shows that the former is superior to Raney Ni.
